A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Saturday, October 26, with elevated fire weather conditions across all of Connecticut, as highlighted by the SPC. This is a rare situation—one we almost never see in our area during the fall months. The attached SPC map underscores the significance of this unusual setup. I was trying to remember if I had ever seen elevated fire conditions per the SPC in the fall, and this is the first time in my recollection.

 

 

 

A dry cold front will move through late tonight, with northwest winds intensifying in its wake on Saturday. Expect gusts reaching 30 mph, with relative humidity dropping to 25-35%—conditions prime for rapid fire spread. Temperatures will be relatively comfortable in the low 60s, making it a good day for outdoor activities, like local Trick-or-Treat events, as long as precautions are taken.

While there’s a lot of buzz about the fire danger, and I get this is my third consecutive brush fire article on this site, raising awareness during such a dry period is essential. The quicker a fire is reported, the better the chance the initial responding units have of controlling it. In addition, awareness may allow people to think twice about open burning.
