Good morning! We’re starting the day on a bright note across the region, with morning satellite imagery showing mostly sunny skies. A seasonably cool air mass has settled in overnight, and many local weather stations dropped into the lower and middle 40s by sunrise — definitely a crisp start for May.
While the morning looks pleasant, don’t expect wall-to-wall sunshine all day. Cold air aloft moving overhead will help create some atmospheric instability this afternoon, leading to a mix of sun, clouds, and scattered showers developing mainly between 2 PM and 7 PM. Most of these showers will be quick-moving, but a few could produce brief downpours before activity fades away this evening.
Tonight will feature quieter weather for a time, though clouds will begin increasing late as our next storm system approaches from the southwest. Rain chances will ramp up toward daybreak Saturday.

Saturday Looks Wet and Gloomy
Forecast confidence continues to increase that Saturday will be the rougher half of the weekend. Expect mostly cloudy skies with periods of rain developing by mid to late morning and continuing through much of the day. Temperatures will remain stuck in the 60s, making for a cool and dreary feel overall.
Rainfall totals of 0.50 to 1.00 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible if steadier bands of rain set up.
Sunday Improves for Mother’s Day
The good news is that conditions should improve fairly quickly behind Saturday’s system. Sunday is shaping up to be the better day of the weekend, especially during the first half of the day. Expect mostly sunny skies and milder temperatures, with highs climbing back toward 70 degrees by afternoon — a much nicer setup for Mother’s Day plans.
That said, the weather won’t stay quiet for long. Shower chances return Sunday evening, and another round of rain is possible Monday, with some heavier downpours potentially developing at times.
Enjoy the brighter start today, and keep the umbrella nearby for the unsettled stretch ahead!
