Get the rain gear ready…. Models are in good alignment now on a soaker for Thanksgiving Day throughout all of Connecticut. Rain should break out between 5AM and 7AM and continue straight through until around 7PM Thursday evening. A low track focused just to the South of New England can cause some wintery issues in certain circumstances, but with no truly cold air in place, a 40 to 45 degree rain is what we’ll get stuck with.

Note the lack of high pressure to the north of the system to reinforce cold air. A low over James Bay is not a good look for SNE snow.
The rain doesn’t look to be particularly heavy, but soaking nonetheless. A general 0.75 to 1.50 inches is expected. Besides the rain, the wind will be relatively mellow as well, with maximum gusts 20-25 mph for many.

A look at the rain/snow setup midday Thursday. Lots of green over CT…
It should be noted, though, that there will be snow from this event in ski country, as seen below on the Euro. The Euro far outperformed the GFS in this particular storm, and was much more accurate with the evolution of the energy. As we head into snow season, it will be interesting to see if this trend continues.

The ski resorts deserve a good start to the season!
