One of my big takeaways from this forecast and talking to people afterwards has been the confusion betweeen Flash Flood Warning and Flash Flood Emergency. Any time you see the term “Emergency” in a weather alert it’s a really big deal whether it’s for flooding or god forbid a tornado. The “Flash Flood Emergency” alert was rolled out shortly after the “Tornado Emergency” alert in the mid 2010s and is only used by the National Weather Service in rare, high-end situations that pose a significant threat to human life.

The only other Flash Flood Emergency ever issued in Connecticut was during the remnants of Ida in 2021. That Storm also resulted in fatalities. A lot of people educate on Watch vs Warning, but you don’t hear as much about the perhaps most important “Emergency” alert. Here is an example of the alert that was sent Sunday.
